Got questions about your musical instruments? Are you trying to locate, identify, repair, maybe learn to play? We have been answering questions and solving musical problems for years!

If something has you stumped about your musical equipment, or maybe you just need a second opinion, click on the question button below, and we'll give you our best answer, usually within 24 hours!

Good questions to ask :)

About the operation and maintenance of your equipment, history, how to connect things, how to get the best sounds, how to get service, how to find instruction.

Questions to not ask :(

"How much is my stuff worth?", "Will you buy my stuff?", "How much should I pay for a pink Tele?".

Note: We can help you with a generalized value of your equipment, but without seeing it, we cannot quote you an accurate appraisal. Any assistance we offer you in terms of buying and selling musical equipment is to be considered "averaged information" and not to be specific about your piece of equipment.

Music Instruction Q+A

What's the best way to learn to play an instrument?
How are scales and chords connected?

Q. What's the best way to learn to play a musical instrument?

A. We stock hundreds of instruction books, and many of them are designed for self-teaching. We also sell many video tapes that will get you started, or to refine a specific style of playing. However, we still feel that the best learning approach is with a qualified instructor. If you're in the Vermont area, see our "Music Teachers in Vermont" page on the catalog directory page.

Q. I really enjoy playing music, but I think that there's a lot I don't understand about how notes and chords work together. I'd really like to know more about different kinds of scales, too, and how they affect the feeling of a song. Any recommendations?

A. Yes! What you need is a better understanding of music theory. Check out "Edly's Music Theory for Practical People". This is an excellent study of exactly what you're asking about; the chords, scales, etc. Writer-teacher-musician Ed Roseman has written the best theory book you will ever find. Easy to understand, fun to read, and humorously illustrated. Click on the highlighted book title to read more, and to order!
